The agencies listed below can assist you by providing free or low
cost food, clothing and shelter and other services to meet your
basic needs.
American Red Cross of the Bay Area
Provides emergency housing, food, clothing, and financial assistance
for disaster victims. The ARC also provides free disaster classes
and classes on CPR and First Aid. Services are free. Some classes
have a fee.

Bay Area Rescue Mission
Provides basic and special need services for homeless persons, including
temporary housing, food, clothes, furniture and household goods.
Adult and teen programs, outreach groups, tutoring, senior group,

Battered Womans Alternatives Emergency
Shelter
Provides confidential shelter for battered women and their children-length
of stay 3 days to 2 months. Priority given to women with children
in immediate danger. Fees: 1.50 per day for women who can pay.

Bay Area Crisis Nursery
A residential care facility that provides a temporary home for infants,
toddlers, and preschoolers of parents who are temporarily unable
to cope during a time of stress. Provides food, clothing, and loving
care for a minimum of 24 hours up to a maximum of 3 weeks if needed.
Parents can visit their child during the day. Fees: None.

Contra Costa County Community Services
A federally funded program that helps households pay their energy
bill once a calendar year. Assistance is targeted toward low-income
households with high energy costs, taking into consideration households
with elderly and disabled persons and children under the age of

Contra Costa Food Bank
Provides food to Emergency Assistance Program countywide. These
programs provide food packages to individuals and families for up
to three days. Referral necessary, free Brown Bag Program for seniors.

Provides a 3 day supply of emergency food to anyone in need. Individuals

Provides assistance to ex-offenders and their families and families
of persons in jail. Emergency food, clothing, and crisis intervention

Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP)
Souper Center offers noontime lunch 7 days per week, 11:30-12:45p.m.
Free clothing 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. West County Resource
Center offers showers, laundry, phone, case management, mailing
address, job and housing assistance to homeless individuals and
families. 30 bed emergency family shelter from mid-November to April
1st. Parenting classes for winter shelter guests. Services are free.

Hillcrest Congregational Church Emergency Food
Pantry and Clothing Closet
Provides food boxes to low-income residents in area served containing
a three day supply of food. Box can include produce, fruit, meat
and/or eggs. Will try to accommodate special diets, infant needs
and homeless persons without cooking facilities. Services are free.

Provides a noon meal for those in need at three different locations
in Contra Costa County. Churches and community groups assume responsibility

Free placement for homeless/runaway youth. Mediation and counseling
for families of runaway youth. Recruit and train foster families
for runaways. Individual, couple and family therapy; Divorce and

Salvation Army
Provides clothing and assistance in obtaining basic needs. PG&E
Reach Program, to prevent the turn off of utilities is available
for Central County residents, as well as counseling and religious
services. Services are free. Also provides food baskets with items
that do not require cooking for homeless persons once every 30 days
in Antioch and Concord. In addition, provides clothing vouchers
on a limited basis for emergencies and makes referrals to other
agencies.

S.H.A.R.E. of Northern California
Provides $25-$35 dollars worth of nutritious groceries in
exchange for $14 cash or food stamps and 2 hours of community service
volunteer work. Food packages include fresh meat and produce, vegetarian

SHELTER Inc.
Assistance in providing shelter for Contra Costa County residents:
homelessness prevention for families, landlord-tenant advice, housing
discrimination, and REACH PLUS program. Pittsburg Family Center
and Mountain View House provide transitional housing for women and
children, with classes in computers and life skills (including parenting),
case management, and counseling services. Rent is 30% of eligible
income. Sliding scale and free services available.
